Mayorkas Salary Could be Reduced by Over $50,000

Impeachment Trial to Begin at 1 PM

All 100 Senators to be Sworn In as Jurors

WEB Mayorkas, the current Secretary of Homeland Security, could see his salary reduced by over $50,000 if he is impeached and removed from office. Mayorkas, who currently earns $203,500 annually, would see his salary decline by over $4,000 per month if he missed the upcoming impeachment trial. The trial is set to begin at 1 pm on Tuesday, with all 100 senators sworn in as jurors.

Mayorkas was nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate in February 2021. He has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration's immigration policies, and he has vowed to reform the Department of Homeland Security. However, Mayorkas has also been criticized for his handling of the recent surge in illegal immigration at the southern border.

The impeachment inquiry against Mayorkas was launched in March 2022 by the House of Representatives. The inquiry is based on allegations that Mayorkas lied to Congress about the Biden administration's border policies. Mayorkas has denied the allegations, and he has said that he is confident that he will be exonerated by the Senate.

The impeachment trial is expected to last several weeks. If Mayorkas is convicted by the Senate, he will be removed from office. The Senate would then need to vote to bar Mayorkas from holding future federal office.
