Top Democratic donors are increasingly looking to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom as potential replacements for President Joe Biden in the White House, as calls for Biden to end his reelection campaign continue to grow.
Governors Whitmer, Newsom, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and JB Pritzker of Illinois are among those being considered by donors as possible alternatives to Biden, according to sources familiar with the matter.
On Monday, Biden continued to work to tamp down Democratic calls for him to withdraw from the race. However, several top donors have already shifted their support to Whitmer and Newsom, believing that they offer a stronger chance of victory in 2024.
