The Flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Description and Symbolism
The flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is the national flag of the de facto state in the northeastern portion of the island of Cyprus.
The flag is white with a red crescent and star in the center, and two thin red stripes near the top.
The crescent and star are traditional symbols of Islam, and the red stripes represent the blood of the Turkish Cypriots who fought for independence.
History of the Flag
The flag was adopted on March 7, 1984, when the TRNC was declared independent.
The design of the flag is based on the flag of Turkey, which has a similar design but with a green background instead of a white one.
The TRNC flag is not recognized by any other country, as the international community considers the TRNC to be part of the Republic of Cyprus.
